Like the past few years, this year too, on 14th June, The World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) will be observed all over the world for creating  extensive awareness, for making people realise the need for safe blood transfusion, for putting stress on the importance of voluntary blood donation. However, as declared by WHO, ISBT and a few other organizations, it will be, above all, an occasion to thank all the voluntary blood donors and to acknowledge all those individuals, who, responding to the worldwide increase in demand for safe blood, have worked day and night to help the people at the time of their need. The World Blood Donor Day is dedicated to the unsung heroes, those nonprofessional unpaid blood donors who have fought to create a steady foundation of safe blood supply to save the lives of people suffering from life threatening diseases.

The day 14th June is of special significance for all those who are interested in Medical Science and Biology. It is the birthday of Karl Landsteiner, the eminent Austrian Biologist and physician who received the Nobel Prize in 1930 for discovering the ABO Blood Group System.

Let Us Care for You(LUCY), out of its social commitment, has resolved to organize several programmes on this occasion. To ensure a wide impact for WBDD 2009, the LUCY core committee has decided under mentioned campaign programme to commemorate WBDD 2009.

13th June 2009 :

(a)Institution based campaign in various offices, schools and colleges on 100% voluntary non-remunerated donation of blood and blood components. Stickers, posters and fliers will be used as campaign material.

(b) Campaign in Railway stations and Bus stands spreading the significance of WBDD.

14th June 2009:

(a) Workshop on 100% voluntary non-remunerated donation of blood and blood components from 10 A.M. – 2 P.M. Co-organizers, Members and Volunteers of LUCY will participate in the workshop.

(b) Blood donation motivation awareness campaign will be conducted in front of 6 Medical college Hospitals in the City of Joy  from 3 P.M. - 6P.M. Stickers, posters and fliers will be used as campaign material.

(c) Volunteers and Member of Let Us Care for You will bleed in the medical college hospital blood banks as a part of the campaign.

(d) Fliers promoting 100% voluntary non-remunerated donation of blood and blood components will be distributed door to door in certain areas of the city and suburbs along with Daily Newspapers.

(e) Campaign in Railway stations and Bus stands spreading the significance of WBDD.

(f) LUCY Members will participate and mobilize the local voluntary blood donors of Madhyamgram and Newbarrackpur  in their in-house blood donation camp.
